Gas station of our youth

This is the gas station Mom and Dad used to trade children at for weekend visitations after the divorce.

I'm off to Seattle for 5 days!

2 1/2 days with Dad in Maltby, then 2 1/2 days with Mom in Bellingham.  Hubby is staying home with the sick dog (Buster is still 15% underweight, not eating much, too weak to get up on the couch without help, and has diarrhea).  We have some credit for his canceled flights so maybe we can go together later this summer.

I will be selectively breaking my diet while I'm traveling so I don't miss out on enjoying the party food and my favorite restaurants.  I also don't want to be a pain for my parents to feed.  I'm leaving Las Vegas at 139 pounds -- I hope I don't gain too much weight before I get back.

Now I just have to decide whether the Cinnabon at the airport should be included in this diet break. :)

Hubby finds his academic calling

I've successfully nudged Hubby into returning to college to complete his bachelors degree and he's been admitted to UNLV for fall semester.  Initially he was thinking about majoring in Finance with a Real Estate concentration (one of his long-term goals is to become a real estate investor), but he wasn't very enthused about the courses.

Then he discovered that UNLV offers degrees in drinking and gambling!  Now he is so excited about school that he wants to attend full time and pursue a double-major. :)

Meanwhile, my accounting program sounds less fun now. :(

Housework, filing, studying, Warcraft

I've been busy with those four things, hence not much blogging.  I do still intend to write some more stuff about the convention, nomination, etc., just not sure when I'll get around to it.  Tomorrow evening I have a pretty full mopicblogging itinerary: happy hour with Leo and Sarah, First Friday, then a birthday party for one of Hubby's friends.  Then home to watch my DVR of Battlestar Galactica!

What a storm!

We had quite the windstorm last night -- enough to rip the neighbors's tree out of the ground and tip it over partway into our yard.

I figured if the wind was loud enough to scare me that I'd better bring the dogs in. Wouldn't want them to become airborne.

Terrence "Not Johnny" Chan

And his new friend, a Johnny "Not Terrence" Chan bobble-head doll.

Terrence and I had a nice chat over coffee and tea tonight, although it was kind of difficult to come up with topics to talk about that we hadn't already read on each others' blogs!

Worlds collide

Last night I dreamed that I was inside World of Warcraft, taking pictures with my new cameraphone.

Oh, and I need your phone numbers again

Friends & family, please email me your digits -- I lost most phone numbers with my hosed phone. :(

I've been playing too much World of Warcraft :(

Plus real life stuff (school projects, dogs, etc.).  Post about dogs soon.

I have also been sad/thinking about about this a lot: Cult Poker Personality Brandi Hawbaker found Dead

You silly earthlings and your 24-hour days

My favorite part of being back in school full time with mostly distance learning classes is how unstructured my schedule is.  I only *have* to be somewhere two evenings a week for a few hours each time.  The rest of the time, I can sleep or be awake whenever I want.

Long time readers of the old blog will recall that I've had ongoing issues with insomnia and sleep schedules my whole life and that I've tried a wide variety of different things to force myself to fit into a normal M-F 9-5 schedule.  Dr. Google suggested that I had delayed sleep phase syndrome, but now that I'm not trying to fit myself to anyone else's schedule anymore, I think it's more likely to be non-24-hour sleep-wake syndrome.  Without any external pressures on my schedule, I seem to naturally stay awake for about 30 hours and then sleep for 10-12 hours.  I like this because I actually get more waking hours of the week than normal people -- my sleep ratio is the same as someone who is refreshed by only 6-7 hours of sleep per 24 hour day instead of the usual 8 -- even if I get fewer days (4 instead of 7).  I have to check the Windows clock/calendar several times a day because I have NO inherent sense of "what day is it?" anymore.

Also, Hubby seems to have the same thing too! (Although he seems to be on a shorter day cycle than I am, but some of that may come from forcing himself to be up during prime poker hours.)  How nice that two "1 in 2000" people could find each other (and in Las Vegas, of course).

This could be a problem for the few times per week that I do have to be somewhere for class, meetings, etc., but I still have an Ambien prescription so all I have to do is plan ahead a couple days, and if it looks like my current sleep/wake schedule isn't compatible with the scheduled event then I use Ambien to knock myself out and force a reset onto a new schedule.

It's going to suck when I'm done with school and back at work, but one of the appeals of accounting is that it's supposedly a very very flexible profession once you get past the entry-level "paying your dues" years.

Hello, I'm back

I've decided to restart my blog.

For those of you who are new here, here is the story of the old blog:  Jacqueline went to college and majored in economics.  Jacqueline decided to go to graduate school and become a development economist.  Jacqueline ran as the Libertarian candidate for Secretary of State in Washington.  Jacqueline failed integral calculus and realized that economics graduate school was probably not for her.  Jacqueline decided to become a professional blogger/gambler and move to Costa Rica after graduation instead.  Jacqueline dated various men and went on various diets.  Jacqueline posted inflammatory things to her blog and sometimes the whole internet showed up to heckle!  Jacqueline moved to Las Vegas.  Jacqueline ran out of money (damn you, Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act!) and got a job at a local robotics company.  Jacqueline got married.  When we last saw our heroine, she was newlywed, still working at the robotics company a bazillion hours a week, and about to start an MBA degree program.  Jacqueline decided that she didn't have time to blog anymore.

Fast forward to the present day: I'm still living in Las Vegas, enjoying married life.  I recently quit my job at the robotics company (great people, but I realized that I don't like working in a startup environment) to concentrate on school full time.  I discovered that I really, really like accounting so I'm transferring from the MBA program to a MS Accounting program in the fall; meanwhile I'm completing some prerequisite accounting classes via distance learning.  I've put on some newlywed pudge and I'm trying to get back into exercising regularly.  Between work, school, and husband I haven't had time to do much else for the past nine months. :(

My original blog was created while procrastinating from doing a statistics class assignment, so it seems fitting that this new incarnation be created while procrastinating from doing an accounting class assignment. :)  I'm back to my old home at TypePad because I decided that WordPress was too much trouble to fuss with and I didn't want to keep pestering Andrew every five seconds to help me with something.  I'm mapping my http://www.jacquelinepassey.com/ domain to here -- so, please link to that if you want to link here (I think this blog will still be showing up at a typepad.com domain for another day or two).  I've set up various feed subscription options, and I'm playing with all the new "widgets" TypePad has to offer, so the sidebar will probably be in flux for a while.  I'm not going to tolerate any crap in the comments, so be nice to each other and me.  I will be hosting Battlestar Galactica open threads again, so please stop by Friday nights for those.

Welcome back!
