The best buffets in Las Vegas

Just a brief list, in alphabetical order (these are all in the same quality class so it's hard to rank them):

  • Bellagio Buffet
  • Paris Buffet
  • Planet Hollywood Spice World Buffet
  • Rio Carnival World Buffet
  • Rio Seafood Buffet
  • Wynn Buffet

I don't have the time or notes to write reviews right now, but you can find additional information on the details and merits of each of those on plenty of other Vegas sites.  I just wanted to jot my list down because sometimes people ask me for my opinion as a local who has eaten many meals at many buffets.

Mmm... bubble bath with massage jets!

I had forgotten how divine the bathtubs are in Caesars Palace's suites.

An impromptu romantic overnight getaway

Hubby got a comped room for some friends who will be visiting this week. We had to check in tonight, but the friends don't arrive until tomorrow.

To our delight, Caesars gave us a corner suite in the Augustus Tower with a north Strip view. So we decided to grab a bottle of wine and some snacks and spend the night.

(I'll resume the diet tomorrow.)

Bunnies in the Playboy Club

Probably too blurry but Hubby suggested I take a picture of some of the girls for your viewing enjoyment.

"My God, they're building the Death Star!"

I can't remember which journalist originally wrote that, but his description of the City Center construction site is apt.

Update: It was actually, "Bloody hell, it looks like they're building the Death Star" and it was Chris Ayers.

The best thing about the off-Strip clubs is the view of the Strip.

Current location: Moon at the Palms

It is dark here (I am likely to be eaten by a grue!) so mopicblogging probably won't turn out. Anyhow this is supposed to be a shot of a go go dancer with the retracted roof in the background.

Leo and I could not pass up this ironic photo opportunity.

Spot the Stripper!

A fun game to play in Las Vegas is "Spot the Stripper".  Outside of an actual strip club, that is.

Hubby and I were strolling through Walmart on a post-movie shopping trip when we walked past a very thin, hot young woman wearing sweats and carrying a broom out of the cleaning products aisle.  I leaned over towards Hubby and murmured in his ear, "Stripper's gotta clean."  He cracked up because that's exactly what she was.

Walmart is a great location for playing Spot the Stripper.  They're the hot girls dressed way way down, usually in sweats.  75% of the time there's a baby or toddler in the cart despite the girls looking way too thin to be new mothers.  Snorting cocaine must be the best post-partum fitness plan ever!

Hubby and I are very good at this game because the strippers tend to shop at the same times we do: the middle of the night when hardly anyone else is in there, thus making them even easier to spot.

In other stripper news, Las Vegas Weekly has a new blog by a stripper/UNLV senior: Stripped.  So far it's entertaining reading.

New decor at Louis's Fish Camp

They are installing an alligator skeleton on the wall.

Happy hour appetizers at Louis's Fish Camp

Fried green tomatoes, oyster shooters, hush puppies, BBQ slider, regular slider, fries.

I'd never had fried green tomatoes before and now that I've tried them I don't think I care for them. I liked the sauce, though, and dipped the fries in it.

The cocktail sauce of the oyster shooters is overpowering and the shot glasses too big to actually "shoot" them, so you have to basically sip off a layer of too-peppery cocktail sauce before you get to the oysters.

The BBQ slider was excellent. I also liked the hush puppies (not too dry) but Sarah didn't. She said her hamburger slider was "just OK."

Sarah doesn't like this place and won't be back (she doesn't eat fish, so there's very little on the menu she can eat). I love seafood so although I'm not that impressed with their appetizers I would like to come back and try their entrees some time.

Escape to Louis's Fish Camp!

Blue Martini was so crazy packed that we fled after our free martinis.

Now we're having round two in the far less crowded Louis's Fish Camp. I'm having a Cosmopolitan (of course) and Sarah (the heretic) is having a gin and tonic.

Tasty 'Sex and the City' martinis at Blue Martini in Town Square

They're giving these out free to anyone who shows a ticket stub for Sex and the City.

We're out on the balcony because inside it almost too packed too move around much less take pictures.

Map to where to redeem 2008 Las Vegas coupons

Every year I buy the Las Vegas Advisor Pocket Book of Values, American Casino Guide, and Entertainment Book, and then I hardly use any of the coupons because I don't know where the places are.

So, this year I decided to make a map:

Only the Pocketbook of Values and American Casino Guide coupons are there right now, but I will be adding the Entertainment Book coupons soon.

(If you're new to Google Maps, use the buttons in the upper left part of the map to zoom in or out and scroll around, and click on one of the blue placemarkers for information on the name of the place, the book the coupon is in, and the coupon number or page number.  POV = Pocketbook of Values, ACG = American Casino Guide, EB = Entertainment Book.  These are all the 2008 editions of the books.  If you click the link on the bottom to "View Larger Map" it will take you to Google Maps where you can print out sections of it.)
