One potential upside of an Obama presidency
Associated Press: Obama tells black fathers to engage their children:
Barack Obama celebrated Father's Day by calling on black fathers, who he said are "missing from too many lives and too many homes," to become active in raising their children.
"They have abandoned their responsibilities, acting like boys instead of men. And the foundations of our families are weaker because of it," the Democratic presidential candidate said Sunday at a largely black church in his hometown.
If Obama is elected I hope he serves as an inspiration to black Americans to get their shit together. Yes, there was horrible historical injustice and there is lingering discrimination today. But most of black Americans' problems now are caused by their own choices -- to not value education, to have children out of wedlock, to get involved in drugs and other crime. They've created a self-destructive, self-limiting culture, and they need to change that if they want to achieve widespread success in mainstream society.
Right now there is an alien civilization looking down on our planet, saying, "I hope these humans learn to get their shit together. Yes, there were horrible evolutionary injustice and there is lingering genetic damage today. But most of Humans' problems now are caused by their own choices -- to not value reason, to breed selfishly, to make war over imaginary best friends and their imaginary rules. They've created a self-destructive, self-limiting civilization, and they need to change that if they want to achieve widespread success in mainstream galactic relations."
Take that as you will.

Never expected to have to say it, to you but, Most Black Americans are not what TV/Radio/tabloids would have you believe. At least no more than most White Americans are like the sitcoms and soap operas show them to be. Pearls and Makeup for lunch at home anyone?
Other minority stereotypes aren't a problem, since they are rarely on TV. Except maybe MTV.
Anyway, notice all the Black Americans behind and in front of Obama as he makes that speech. In a church, to people that are employed, with families and responsibilities. He was literally preaching to the choir at several points.
The problems are real and serious. But it isn't Thuglife for everyone everyday.
