Fantastic episode in my opinion.
You'll see.

Bill Adama commits suicide when he discovers that his son is the final cylon and his best friend is one of the final five.

That's what they leave us with? Earth is a hot zone? How are they going to wrap it up in under 10 episodes?

Earth is a pile of dust.
The Colonials are frakked.
The Cylons are frakked.
More importantly, we're all royally frakked....
No new BSG until 2009.
Frak.

I liked it the episode a lot. In my opinion, this was one of only 2 "non-cheesy" ways that they could have done Earth.
Of course, maybe the Cyclons have technology to enable them to remove radiation (like with the 12 colonies). That would be an interesting beginning for a new world.

now that they are in peace with the cylons why don't they just rebuild their colonies and earth too.

So the humans on Earth have destroyed themselves in a nuclear war? :(
Did y'all see the ad that Tricia Helfer will be on Burn Notice?

Phil: Who is Leland?

Also, I'm frustrated that we *still* don't know who the final Cylon is. Is he or she hanging out on Earth or what?
WAS IT BUSH? DID HE START THE NUCLEAR WAR?
:)

So where on Earth do you think they landed? On another blog they speculate that they're in New York.

Speaking of tunes going thru the head, I kept hearing Jancie Joplin singing "Take it, Take another little piece of my heart now baby, Break it, take another little piece and throw it away..."

Bill is a Cylon.

I kept waiting for a shot of the Statue of Liberty and then to see Bill fall to his knees and shake angry fists at the sky while screaming, "you maniacs! You blew it up!"

Anyone notice the shot of the buildings from Earth was EXACTLY the same shot of the picture of the temple on Kobol in Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part 1 in Season 1?

"All of this has happened before. And all of this shall happen again."
That phrase could mean that a cycle of apocalyptic destruction is going on.
Maybe Earth isn't the 13th colony. It was the original home of humanity, and Kobol was actually the first colony.
Though if the radiation levels are still rather hot, the devastation may be a recent thing. The other Cylons taking a "Scorched Earth" policy a little too literally?

Bill's a Cylon? Isn't that litte Turing test you have before we can post supposed to prevent them from posting here? ;)

Jacqueline,
Leland is Leland Joseph Adama, better known as Lee Adama.

"Also, I'm frustrated that we *still* don't know who the final Cylon is. Is he or she hanging out on Earth or what?"
In the episode they openly admitted that there is an external manipulator. I think it being "the cylon God" would be too cliche. So, if it isn't, it could be the last Cylon.
Clearly the human (skinjob) cylons are missing information too. A raider was able to identify one of the final five and call off an attack. They don;t know who created them. They can't rebuild the resurrection hub. Despite their incredible software skills, none of them shows hardware aptitude.
So there is a third player. Maybe it's the centurions. Maybe it is the 12th cylon. Or perhaps somebody/something else is still playing games with them all.
Not sure, but I hope that we have a really cool season to find out. :-)

Unfortunately, while the Cylons may have a plan, I've long suspected that the writers don't and are just making it up while they go along, hoping for not too many continuity errors.

I have it on good authority that my spine does not glow during sex. Other parts smoke, yes, but my spine doesn't glow.
And while I appreciate how cheesy it would have been, Adama should have said, "they blew it up". Or at least had a large pointy headdress statue in the background.

IIRC, we have only seen Athena's and Caprica Six's spines glow. I think someone (I forget who) suggested a theory in the comments on my old blog that Cylons spines only glow red when they are conceiving. Thus Caprica Six was pregnant when that body died in the nuclear attack on the colonies, which would help explain why Baltar's Head-Six kept talking about "our child".
