Kingdom of the Crystal Skull : Original Indiana Jones trilogy :: Phantom Menace : Original Star Wars trilogy
My suspension of disbelief can only stretch so far.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a really uneven movie. There are parts that are great (and moved the audience to spontaneous clapping/cheering) and there are parts that are so over-the-top that they cross the line into stupid.
Hubby's theory is that George Lucas is going batshit crazy as he ages. My theory is that he just doesn't have anyone around him now to tell him which ideas are good and which ones go too far.
So, should you see it? Well, if you're a big Indiana Jones fan, and you see a lot of movies so seeing this one won't preclude seeing a different, better movie, and you don't go in with high expectations, then sure, go see it. It's an action/adventure/special effects movie so you should even see it in the theater. But be warned that it's nowhere near as good as the original movies.
I think that your husband is correct about George Lucas; it isn't so much that he is going crazy but that lack of critical feedback is always bad. This is, despite hating editors and peer-reviewers, I gotta admit better work comes out when people can saw "no, that idea is really bad".
Creative work is like hitting in baseball. Most ideas are bad and most attempts fail. The ability to pick out the good ideas is really important.
That being said, I will see it for the same reason I saw Star Wars I and II -- brand loyalty and nostalgia. :-)

It's Speilberg's baby, not Lucas'. And amazingly Speilberg has actaully spent the last 30 years increasing the number of creative people surrounding him rather than restricting it.
Lucas just helped out on the story, he was really just a "consultant".

Well, if Lucas was only a consultant then that is a good sign as well. It makes it much more likely that the overall product is good. I was worried about "Phantom Menace" levels of bad decision-making so this counts as an endorsement of the movie to me. :-)

Not even remotely interested! Indiana Jones has always just made me ill.
Oh, I know: all you IJ fans are ready to toss me in a dumpster. I'm used to your hate by now.
