One of the greatest episodes of the entire series. For once the show felt completely new and exciting again.

Damnit, I missed it. Damn summer time cold and it was 305K up here, in the shade.

Hubby and I lay down for a "nap" at 6pm and conked out for 12 hours (our sleep schedules have been disturbed for the past 2 weeks as I pulled a lot of all-nighters to finish up school stuff).
Fortunately we have TiVo. I'm watching it now.

Well, that was exciting!
Does anyone have any idea how the long the break will be after the next episode? I understand that the one in two weeks will be the last BSG for a while. It looks like they're leading us up to one hell of a cliffhanger.
It looks like long-haired Six survives her gunshot wounds, so she can tell take Hera. Plus they have another Six in custody. So still plenty of Sixes around to fulfill the vision.

We've actually got three more until the midseason break: the reason this is "episode 9" is because Razor counts as episodes 1 and 2.
I miss how no one seems happy that Starbuck stole an entire base ship. It's her greatest heist to date.
Posted by:Philip Welch | May 17, 2008 at 07:30 AM
Well she didn't really "steal" it -- they're working with her.
Posted by:Jacqueline | May 17, 2008 at 07:32 AM
Hey, so does anyone else think that Starbuck has Borderline Personality Disorder? Her personal history and behavior are classic BPD.

Something to think about. I'm thinking all the stress Baltar was under has made him Bi-polar.
Posted by:Scorpius | May 17, 2008 at 07:41 AM
Baltar is a classic Narcissist.
Man, I'm starting to think that the BSG writers just went flipping through the DSM for inspiration for their characters. :)

So what does Roslin have?
Posted by:Philip Welch | May 17, 2008 at 08:02 AM
Cancer and delusions of grandeur.
Posted by:Scorpius | May 17, 2008 at 08:07 AM
Not all the characters are crazy. Several characters -- Roslin, Bill Adama, Lee Adama, Helo, etc. -- are mentally healthy, aside from the stress they've been under.
Posted by:Jacqueline | May 17, 2008 at 08:08 AM
They're only delusions if they're not true -- which I suppose is still not 100% clear, but it seems that the writers are indicating that Roslin's visions are true.
Posted by:Jacqueline | May 17, 2008 at 08:11 AM
Lee mentally healthy? He's got it for Kara (a self-destructive type) and he pulled his weapon on his superior officer. Never mind that whole weight issue.
Posted by:Scorpius | May 17, 2008 at 08:18 AM
Well, I think he at least *was* mentally healthy before the apocalypse. Whereas Starbuck and Baltar were fucked up before the series began.
Posted by:Jacqueline | May 17, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Okay, but Roslin is increasingly dishonest, secretive, controlling, and untrusting towards others.
And Gaeta seems to be losing it now too :(
Posted by:Philip Welch | May 17, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Gaeta's not losing it, Gaeta's just damaged after the things he has done. He's lost his idealism and self-confidence.
Posted by:Scorpius | May 17, 2008 at 08:28 AM
Yeah Roslin seems to be developing paranoia.
Posted by:Jacqueline | May 17, 2008 at 08:36 AM
Wouldn't you if everyone were out to get you? Her Veep turned out to be a monster who is now started a cult which unermines your authorate; the young officer you trusted has repeatedly stabbed you in the back; and your aide is a cylon!
Posted by:Scorpius | May 17, 2008 at 08:41 AM
She was getting paranoid before she knew all these things (and still doesn't know about Tory).
Just because they really are out to get you doesn't mean you're not paranoid!
Posted by:Jacqueline | May 17, 2008 at 08:45 AM
Ah, Gaeta lost his leg, now he'll never get a woman and lose his virginity.
Posted by:Scorpius | May 17, 2008 at 10:15 AM
What makes you think Gaeta is interested in women?
Posted by:Jacqueline | May 17, 2008 at 10:17 AM
It's all just a metro-sexual act by Gaeta to put women at ease.
Posted by:Scorpius | May 17, 2008 at 10:29 AM
This has easily been the best episode of Season 4, but that's not saying much. I feel the Cylon Civil War got short shrift and too much screaming "You're going the wrong way!"
Finally we get back to the Opera House.
And, man, what a way to end an episode.
Posted by:Josh Poulson | May 18, 2008 at 08:02 AM
OK, watched it all the way through twice now and I'm wondering: what are the lyrics Gaeta's signing? Is there any relavence (like in his delirium he's signing about what's going on or what will happen)? Is that going to be his role from now on, the signing prophet? Is he the final cylon*?
Nah, that last one would be too easy.
Posted by:Scorpius | May 18, 2008 at 09:34 AM
OK,
I answered my own queston:

Boy, are the Cylons gonna be dissapointed by the final 4 out of 5. They talk as if it will be like it will be a big happy reunion...
"What, you mean THESE basket cases are the final five?"
Then again the last one could be a doozy. Who knows, with the ability to ressurect, a dead character may be the final Cylon model.
I'm betting that Billy is the final Cylon.
Posted by:Shawn Levasseur | May 18, 2008 at 07:48 PM
I don't think a dead character can be the final Cylon if what long-haired Six said this week about the final five already being in the fleet were true. They would have to be currently alive and present, right?
It's got to be *someone* major (for storytelling effect), but who?
Posted by:Jacqueline | May 19, 2008 at 08:20 AM
I actually hope that long haired six survives her gunshot wound as she is making a character that I found boring to be remarkably interesting. The whole moral question of defying authority and the issues surrounding morality are cool. Plus, I like the way that she freed the Centurions even when it was against her best interests (and notice how she has paid a price). But the decision to value freedom over slavery when you are on top is always admirable.

They would have to be currently alive and present, right?
Well, if they are Cylons (meaning they can resurrect) then a "dead" character could already be in the fleet.
Paging Ellen...

On second thought, I think it's Bald-headed Tattoed Asian Guy and he's going to come out and say "I keep saying I'm a Cylon but no one seems to listen to me"
Posted by:Scorpius | May 19, 2008 at 11:55 AM
The only way they have of knowing that is that the Raiders turned back, right? Or did the Hybrid say something?
Posted by:Philip Welch | May 19, 2008 at 01:15 PM
Is Gaeta gay?
Let's see, he's a smart, wounded war vetran, sensitive, with a great singing voice.
He should be a babe magnet (hell, if Gaius can have a harem going...)
If he doesn't get a woman before the series ends. That'll be a hint. Then again if he doesn't have a boyfriend either... I guess you'd have to chalk it all up to having his heart broken by Gaius. ;)
